once upon a time a boy saw a girl.  he asked her to go get lime bars.  she said yes.  he was a viking and she was dutch.  but this didn’t stop them.  eventually they fell in love, got married, became the H’s, bought a house in the mountains and had a little dutch-viking hybrid.

then they decided that some sort of modern narritive of life in general [l.i.g], preferably in the digital format, may be in order.

(little dutch-viking hybrids tend to make these things necessary.)

so here is an attempt to capture l.i.g in all it’s wonderful, wild, blessed, busy, changing, challenging gusto.

1st Mother's Day

My first Mother's Day was full of Happy Things and could not have been more fun.  Really.  It was such a sweet day with my family, and the a-mazing Colorado weather (75 and blues skies!) made it absolutely perfect.  We started the day off with all three of us in bed for Aida's breakfast (most days begin like this and it's one of my favorite times).  That would be Happy Thing #1 for the day.  Then I got these lovely flowers and a card from my amazing hubby :)  Happy Thing #2.

We got ready for church and headed out to our favorite breakfast place, the Peak Grill.  And oh breakfast perfection - they had reinstated my absolute favorite special after months of absence: The Cog Egg Crepe.  Pure deliciousness of eggs scrambled with asparagus, ham, swiss cheese and spinach all wrapped up in a yummy crepe.  Whole wheat english muffin, dry.  Fruit substituted for potatoes.  Endless amounts of coffee.  De-molished.  I shall continue to order that dish only, until the sad day that it is retired again.  That would be Happy Thing #3 for the day.

After sufficient fueling, we headed off to church for a wonderful worship service.  It was slightly surreal to stand up when they acknowledged all the moms, but I am so incredibly thankful for this new season of life :)  Happy Thing #4.
After church we attempted mommmy/daughter dressed up picture.  It was kind of a failure.  Nap time, however, was not.  Both Aida and I got one.  Happy Thing #5.
That afternoon, we took Aida for her first "hike".  She loved it and proceeded to kick her legs and babble along for most of the time.  Happy Thing #6.  I am thinking verbosity will not be an issue for her.  I'll let you know how I feel about it a year from now ;)

(It should be noted that after this photo we endeavored to continue our "hike" (which, to be honest, was more of an extreme walk).  Then we rounded the corner and saw the trail went up again. We decided to call it a day.)

We spent a fun and yummy evening/dinner at the Hotel with Mimi, Papa, Aunt Jen and the opening staff.  Happy thing #7.  I was coordinated enough to slice part-way through my thumb while helping with dinner.  But we had strawberry shortcake for dessert and that was comforting.

Then it was home for bath/Skype time with Oma and Opa.  Happy Thing #8.  Modern technology is an amazing thing.  I am so very thankful for how it allows loved ones far away to participate a bit in daily life here (like when Aida peed on me right after she got out of the bath tub).  The Peanut was so tuckered out from the day's festivities that she conked out on my shoulder while we finished Skyping.  Love that. Happy Thing #9.

After some QT relaxing with the hubby, it was time for sleep.  And to wrap-up a wonderful 24 hours of motherhood recognition, Aida slept in till 8:15am Monday morning.  Happy Thing #10.  Perfect.
